It’s a question that inevitably arises in conversations about the cosmos: does life exist elsewhere in the universe? With estimates suggesting there are hundreds of billions of planets in our galaxy alone, with tens of millions potentially like our Earth, there must be some intelligent life out there, right? Perhaps not. It may be the universe is simply too dangerous, on average and over time, for intelligent life to form because of brief flashes of dangerous radiation from dying stars.
